Where do I begin with the Soda City Market? People seem happy to be there. That's why it tops my list of favorite things about Columbia, South Carolina. The Soda City Market has been around for several years. Every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM the city blocks off a stretch of Main Street and, according to the market's website, about 150 vendors set up. Soda City Market is a producer-only market meaning that every vendor only sells what they produce. You can find fresh produce, bread, and cheese. You can choose from a wide array of food and drinks freshly prepared on site. You can peruse stalls of arts, crafts, and antiques. While you are walking you can enjoy the music from several buskers playing for tips. The sounds of hand drumming, various stringed instruments, accordions, saxophones, and vocalists are regular features. And if you enjoy people watching or dogs, Soda City Market is a great place to be and a great event to photograph. A diverse crowd fills the streets from one end to the other, many people accompanied by their fur babies. So if you are planning to be in Columbia on a weekend, the Soda City Market should definitely be on your to-do list.
