Are you looking for a festive outdoor place in Columbia to walk around and enjoy during the holiday season? Maybe you are looking for a good spot to take a picture. Check out the Main Street District. Yarnbombers of Columbia has decorated trees and light poles down the length of Main Street with unique, fun yarn creations that individuals and an entire family can enjoy. Businesses have decorated their store fronts and street entrances with trees, wreaths, and lights. Make sure to enter the Arcade Building to experience their elegant seasonal decorations. Obvious popular choices for photographs are the giant Christmas ornament provided by First Citizens Bank located on the First Citizens Bank Green, and the giant state Christmas tree located on the grounds of the South Carolina State House overlooking Main Street. But keep your eye open for beautiful spots throughout the neighborhood.
While you are walking around there are a number of locally owned businesses perfect for gift shopping and numerous ones offering food and coffee. Many small businesses are at risk now so you have an opportunity to support your community while getting some shopping done while you are there.
Main Street District is one of my favorite places to make headshots and portraits. I went with Sakura Oka to take advantage of the ambiance and the lighting was perfect. Here are a few of my favorite pictures we created walking around.
